- What is HSAC?
- HSAC stands for the Honors Student Advisory Council. We are a student-led leadership group that was elected by EKU Honors students to plan community service and social events for the school year.
- What is the purpose of HSAC?
- From our bylaws: "The mission of the Honors Student Advisory Council shall be to promote a spirit of service among the Honors Program populous by providing quality community service opportunities."
- We are dedicated to representing EKU Honors in and around the Richmond area through service events, and we are committed to fostering community within the EKU Honors program through social events.
- What are the activities HSAC is planning for this year?
- Like classes, residence halls, and all aspects of campus life, this year looks a little different for HSAC. For more information on what HSAC is planning now, head to the Current Events page.
- How can I get involved with HSAC?
- The first step to getting involved with HSAC is by joining the EKU Honors Program. For more information on how to join EKU Honors, head to the EKU Honors website.
- The best way to get involved with HSAC is to come to our events! Check the Current Events page for info on what we are planning. Follow us on Instagram to stay up-to-date. Become a member with us on Engage. Read your weekly "This Week in Honors" email to learn about the goings-on in EKU Honors!
- How can I hold a student leadership position in EKU Honors?
- There are many student leadership roles you can hold within the EKU Honors Program! Below is a list of leadership positions that students are elected and selected for each year. More info about how to get involved will be available later in the year.
- HSAC Positions:
- President: Serves as vice president first, and then becomes president the next year. Presides over HSAC meetings, represents HSAC at the Honors Advisory Committee meetings, coordinates meeting times, and assists officers in achieving their goals. This person is serving the second year of their two-year commitment.
- Vice President: Serves as president in their absence, monitors attendance at HSAC events, monitors HSAC bylaws and holds members accountable, and assists Service Coordinator in planning and executing service events. This person becomes president in their second year. This office is a two academic year commitment.
- Communications Coordinator: Takes minutes at each HSAC meeting, advertises all HSAC events, and assists Service Coordinator in planning and executing service events. This office is a one academic year commitment.
- Finance Coordinator: Maintains and reports HSAC budget, plans and monitors fundraising needs, and assists Service Coordinator in planning and executing events. This office is a one academic year commitment.
- Service Coordinator: Serves as contact person for all service projects and community agencies, and presents and coordinates all service events (at least eight each year, in cooperation with the rest of the officers). This office is a one academic year commitment.
- Honors Ambassadors: Honors Ambassadors are an elite group of EKU Honors students who serve as student representatives to prospective students, EKU Honors alumni, and the EKU community. Honors Ambassadors get to share their experiences as EKU Honors students as they promote the program to students, parents, and alumni. Honors Ambassadors must be able to commit to one academic year.
- HON 100 Peer Mentors: HON 100 peer mentors work with an HON 100 faculty instructor to facilitate an HON 100: Honors Seminar course. The scope of work required of an HON 100 peer mentor will be determined by the faculty instructor and the student. HON 100 peer mentors may earn one hour of HON 390 credit for their work and must be able to commit for the Fall 2020 semester (must attend HON 100 class one time a week and may have additional meetings with faculty instructor.
